Tucson AZ and more

The sun has set here in the Sonoran Desert and our visit is winding down to the end.  We leave Tucson on Friday early am driving to Phoenix where we will stay with friends and then our flight leaves Saturday afternoon.  We have thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the sun, absorbing a ton of Vitamin D and listening to the wildlife as they go through their day.  Time freedom is sure on their side and the more I think about how FREE the wildlife is the more I desire that time freedom to go, do and enjoy life.
We have visited the Sonoran Desert Museum several times as we bought a membership last May when we were here.  The museum is an outdoor museum and is very educational.  The raptor free flight is really nice as well as the other demonstrations they offer.  The aquarium is new this year which showcases many native fish, etc.
The photo above is a great horned owl during the raptor free flight demonstration.

Tohono Chul Park is a beautiful park right in northern Tucson offering miles of hiking trails through different areas of desert flora and fauna.

Tucson Botanical Gardens is another very beautiful place to visit right in the city of Tucson.  You can enjoy all sorts of gardens including cactuses from all over the world and also other plants plus a butterfly enclosure until May 1st.  They raise the butterflys and then bring them in to the enclosure.  The extreme heat in the summer prevents the butterfly enclosure to remain open during the summer months.

We took a hike in the Saguaro National Park where we saw many unusually shaped saguaro cacti.  Miles and miles of hiking trails are available for those who want to hike into the higher elevations in the park for a beautiful view of the valley below.

Luminosa, our home away from home during our visit, is a beautiful place to hang our hat for a few weeks.  Highly recommend this beautiful casita.  Cynthia and Allan are wonderful hosts and Luminosa has all the amenities of home.  We enjoy cooking our own meals and visit Whole Foods Market in Tucson for groceries.   Incredible savings and healthier choices are enjoyed by hubby and myself when we cook our own meals.

Arizona - arrival 2013

Hello from Luminosa near Tucson, our home away from home in the sunny, warm, desert.  We arrived Denver on time this morning about 0630 but found out our flight did not leave at 0845 but at 1015 am, however, after we boarded the Canadair jet to fly from Denver to Phoenix, the pilot advised that the airplane had a scratch on it that may need attention.  So we waited almost an hour past our departure time for maintenance to take a look at the scratch and to approve the pilot to take off.  We had made lunch plans with our friends, Darlene Ward Kiteley, Ursula Huber and Connie McDanel.  These three ladies did not know each other but they all live within 10 or so miles of each other in and around Sun City West, AZ.  The plans were made to meet at Rosies Italian Cafe which was an excellent choice after we finally got there.  When we parked the Kia rental car we could not get the key out of the ignition so I went into the restaurant, met everyone including Darlene's husband and Connie had driven a Kia and came out and showed us how to get the key out of the ignition.  What in the world is the reason for locking the key in the ignition especially when the car is stopped and in park?
The food was excellent and the service was great and we even met Rosie, the owner and cook.  I had portabello ravioli which came with a salad and two honey buns which were delicious.  Others had sandwiches and pizza and a large salad which looked delicious and the prices were not bad at all.
I want to tell you a little bit about our lunch buddies.  Darlene grew up in the neighborhood living across the street from us in Troy, OH.  She was in college when I started high school so we only knew each other in passing.  She did not run the neighborhood with the rest of us.  I found her on Facebook a few years ago and last year was the first time we met again after close to 45 years or so.  She met with us in Phoenix along with two of my classmates who live in the Phoenix area.  It was so nice to catch up with her.  We met Ursula on a small boat wildlife cruise in Prince William Sound in Alaska two summers ago and found out she lives in Sun City West in the winter and works at Portage Glacier in the summer in Alaska.  She is a wonderful friend and she truly enjoys life.  Connie has been a friend for 5 years and she and her husband, Michael, are colleagues in our Young Living essential oil business organization.  They are both wonderful leaders and teachers and, in fact, Connie was a teacher and Michael was a pilot in the Air Force.  They both retired to share wellness, purpose and abundance with others.  We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and now there are new friends who will continue to enjoy friendships.
We left Phoenix about 230 or so driving 106 miles south to Tucson where we purchased groceries at Whole Foods Market.  Finally made it to Luminosa about 7pm or so.  We are all unpacked for the next two weeks.
Here are photos of me and Darlene and her husband and me and Ursula.  Photos of us and Connie will be taken the end of next week when we drive to Phoenix and stay with Connie and Michael prior to leaving AZ.

Arizona 2013

Happy Monday everyone,

We left Anchorage at 1130 Sunday night arriving in Denver at 630 am Monday and now we are about to leave for Phoenix at 0915 am arriving Phoenix at 1030.  Meeting friends for lunch at Rosies Italian Cafe in Sun City West at 1130.  I hope we make it but it not they will wait for us.  It is a 37 mile drive northwest of the Sky Harbor Airport.  Sitting in airports is rather interesting as I wonder where everyone is coming or going.  I take a look around the gate area where we are to see who will be flying with us on this flight to Phoenix and everyone looks ok to me.  We enjoyed a Mexican scrambled egg, potatoe, onion, and chicken bowl with medium salsa for breakfast at the Denver airport.  Hey I did not take a photo of that meal.  Oh well....plenty more meals and photo ops during the next few weeks.
We have never been here in Denver airport which is really large.  One can get alot of walking done in this airport walking or running from gate to gate.  The sun is out with a few clouds in the sky but not sure what the temperature is...no snow on the tarmac so it is totally different than Anchorage airport.  We received 5+ inches of snow on Sunday during the day so I am glad I wore my hiking boots to the airport.
